Borkowo near Kielce belongs to Świętokrzyskie Voivodship (Polish: Województwo świętokrzyskie) is an administrative region, or voivodship, of central Poland. In Polish Święty Krzyż means Holy Cross. It was created January 1, 1999, out of the former Kielce and half of Tarnobrzeg voivodships, pursuant to the Local Government Reorganization Act of 1998. The voivodship’s name recalls the region’s Holy Cross Mountains (Góry Świętokrzyskie). The capital is Kielce (population 213,000 in 2000). The voivodship has 1,328,000 residents (2001). The area is 11,672 km².
